Social Media?? By: Eboni Johnson

Where would we be without social media? I mean social media is definitely something some people take extremely serious. Social Media is a way of life for others, but if you think about it about ten years ago we had no knowledge of social media and we had no thought of how much of a big impact it would be on our lives today. On a good note social media is does have its good points. I mean without social media, how you would be able to reconnect with old classmates, family members, co-workers… etc. Social Media such as Facebook and twitter even have to where you could place yourself in a certain group and this way it will allow you to be connected with people you have a lot in common with. This will allow you to blog about things that interest you the negative sides to social media in my opinion are it can make you look bad. Now when applying for certain positions with companies they review your information on social media sites to get more information who they are about to hire. I understand that we may have a life outside of work or school bit if the wrong person gets hold of your account it could have a negative effect. Last, there has been a lot of social media bullying that has affected a lot of innocent people. It has even taken the life’s of some, I feel this is what happens when you use social media negatively and there is no way around it, because its people voicing their opinions. So how do you feel about social media, do you think it’s for better or worse?

Saving a Life: Learn How to Train Your Dog by Bianca Benitez

As a dog trainer I always make it my number one priority to help pet parents that are having difficulties at home. Any time we sale a pet training class at my store, we look at it as saving a life. The reason we call it that is because a lot of pet owners get frustrated and fed up when handling dogs for the first time. When this happens, many people will give up and end up putting their pets in shelters or pounds. If these poor creatures don’t end up getting adopted or find a home after a while, they are more likely to be put down. It’s sad to admit but it is very true and happens all the time. Many people don’t realize how much training their dog will help them and how much easier it would be for them. In my classes, I try to make it as fun as possible that way both the owners and the dogs get a good experience out of it. I also always let them know that it will be hard work and a lot of effort on their end, but the outcome is definitely worth it. This is why a applaud anyone who takes the time to bring their pets to class and as well as work with them at home. In the long run they are shaping a great relationship with their dog and thus leading to a best friend. People don’t call them a “man’s best friend” just for anything. Given the opportunity, they really can be.

My Life Changing Event by Monique Philio

On December 11, I woke up because I could not breathe nor could I sleep lying down. I weighed 245 pounds easy, but I really didn't look as heavy as the scale stated I was.  It was at point I decided to do something about my weight, I contacted a local doctor who performed the exam and it was at the point I needed to make a decision to consider the gastric bypass or lap band. After hearing the talk/different opinions I decided to keep my plans to myself, I never told anyone of my plans until 1 week before the surgery. I didn't speak a word to anyone because I didn't want anyone to talk me out of my  plans.
Fast Forward to March 25, 2010 I am on the surgery table for about 2 hours, and that was the beginning of a new life changing event. After 3 weeks of liquids/crying I am see amazing results. Some family member were very upset because they consider weight lose surgery cheating, "NO PAIN,  NO GAIN" and I needed to put in a little work.

Weight lose surgery vs. g /exercise, what would you choose? I am sure you are wondering my final weight........I won't tell I will just let you judge after 2 years of My Life Changing Event.

English 1301 Blog Entry Assignment Instructions

One assignment for this course is for each student to complete one entry for the class blog. You can choose any topic, provided it is not obviously offensive or inappropriate to the college classroom climate.

The requirements are as follows:
  • Clearly use a specific writing genre, such as personal narrative, descriptive writing, comparison / contrast, how-to, analysis (of film, literature, music, etc), persuasive.
  • Do not use the same topic or materials you are using for the major essay you are writing for class.
  • Write in blog style (see accompanying materials and websites).
  • Entries should be short, about 250-300 words.
  • Include at least one picture.
  • Include at least one link.
  • Edit your grammar and mechanics.
  • Email your completed entry to me in the course and submit it to the course drop box by the due date you have chosen when you signed up. I will then post your blog for the class.
  • Besides writing your blog entry, you must read the entries of your classmates and comment on them in a meaningful, adult, intelligent way. We have all had the misfortune of reading the other kind of comments online, and we will not accept such behavior here. I hope that you develop the same disdain for unpleasant commenting and discourage it among your acquaintances. The requirement for commenting is that each student must comment once on each entry, including his/her own. Your comment on your own entry should respond to a classmate's comment. After all, the ability to converse online is one of the reasons blogs are so popular. Comments will count for 50% of the blog grade and are due within one week of each posting.

*Important note re: comments - Be sure to sign your name at the end of your comment to receive credit! I cannot give credit for Anonymous posts unless they are signed within the comment.
