My Life Changing Event by Monique Philio

On December 11, I woke up because I could not breathe nor could I sleep lying down. I weighed 245 pounds easy, but I really didn't look as heavy as the scale stated I was.  It was at point I decided to do something about my weight, I contacted a local doctor who performed the exam and it was at the point I needed to make a decision to consider the gastric bypass or lap band. After hearing the talk/different opinions I decided to keep my plans to myself, I never told anyone of my plans until 1 week before the surgery. I didn't speak a word to anyone because I didn't want anyone to talk me out of my  plans.
Fast Forward to March 25, 2010 I am on the surgery table for about 2 hours, and that was the beginning of a new life changing event. After 3 weeks of liquids/crying I am see amazing results. Some family member were very upset because they consider weight lose surgery cheating, "NO PAIN,  NO GAIN" and I needed to put in a little work.

Weight lose surgery vs. g /exercise, what would you choose? I am sure you are wondering my final weight........I won't tell I will just let you judge after 2 years of My Life Changing Event.

  1. I think it's great that you decided to do something about your weight period! It doesn't matter how you decide to change you health as long as you change it! No matter what decision you make someone will disagree. So always make decisions you can live with and that you have decided on yourself. I am very glad that you are happy now, and seemingly better than you were 2 yrs. ago.

  2. I think its so awesome that you made that decision to have the surgery. My mom was obese and had the bypass surgery almost 10 years ago and she couldn't be happier. I get why you wouldn't want to tell people about the surgery because everybody will have their opinion but as long as you do what makes you happy and healthy, nothing else should matter. Keep up the good work!

  3. I think it is great that you took control and made a decision for yourself. Everyone can have their opinion but at the end of the day it is your life and your body. You have to do what is best for you. I also don't think that a major surgery can be considered "no pain." Good luck with your continued life change.

  5. I think its amazing that you had the surgery and also that you can share this with us. If the surgery made you happy then that's all that matters, just don't always worry about what others think its really about you and what makes you happy, I think you did a really great thing.

  6. I am so happy that you recognized when you ready to change you for you. I do not blame you for not sharing your plan with anyone because I think you would had to listen to people swaying your opinion if you should do the surgery or not. I think it such a strong thing you do for yourself.

  7. Thank you all for your encouraging comments - I am just now able to reply to everyone for some odd reason.

It was along hard road but I was determined, I am holding the weight at 155 pounds.

  8. This sounds really exciting. I would be behind you 100% with your decision not to say anything to anyone because sometimes people try and make you second guess what you feel comfortable doing. I understand where your coming from after having my daughter I gained some weight and I just feels that the unwanted weight will not leave. Well Monique Congrats to your successful decision and your new life after surgery.

  9. You have nothing to be ashamed of. It is really hard to lose weight and even if you see some initial weight loss, you can hit really bad plateaus. Everyone's body is different and I personally believe that each individual has the right to choose how they maintain their image.

I'm really glad that this is working out for you and I wish you nothing but luck.
