Saving a Life: Learn How to Train Your Dog by Bianca Benitez

As a dog trainer I always make it my number one priority to help pet parents that are having difficulties at home. Any time we sale a pet training class at my store, we look at it as saving a life. The reason we call it that is because a lot of pet owners get frustrated and fed up when handling dogs for the first time. When this happens, many people will give up and end up putting their pets in shelters or pounds. If these poor creatures don’t end up getting adopted or find a home after a while, they are more likely to be put down. It’s sad to admit but it is very true and happens all the time. Many people don’t realize how much training their dog will help them and how much easier it would be for them. In my classes, I try to make it as fun as possible that way both the owners and the dogs get a good experience out of it. I also always let them know that it will be hard work and a lot of effort on their end, but the outcome is definitely worth it. This is why a applaud anyone who takes the time to bring their pets to class and as well as work with them at home. In the long run they are shaping a great relationship with their dog and thus leading to a best friend. People don’t call them a “man’s best friend” just for anything. Given the opportunity, they really can be.

  1. I absolutely love the name of the blog. I have personally had the experience with having a new untrained puppy. She had the most adorable face but she sure seem to feel the comfort of our new home and thought she could chew anything she liked. To make a long story short, the best thing we ever did with her was to get her trained. It taught her so much but it really taught our family the most. She has turned out to be the best dog. She is absolutely a part of our family. I appreciate people like you that teach someone like me out to get the best out of my dog.

    Thank You, Melissa Ellerbe

  2. When I moved to Colorado I adopted a puppy and the first two weeks were so rough. I lived in a tiny town in the mountains and we did not have the resources to train her. I ended up doing it myself and at times the thought went through my head that maybe I should take her back. I stuck it out and I'm so glad I did but I wished there would have been somebody to help me with a two month old puppy. So I thank you for all that you do with helping newbies with puppies.

  3. I see the signs at my local PetSmart all the time for training classes and think about signing up. I have three dogs that will learn tricks all day long, but act like they don't know their name when I call to them if they do not want to come to me. Two of my dogs, I got from friends who couldn't deal with training them. If I wouldn't have taken them, they would have ended up in the shelter. What you said made me think that it is time to sign up and make my home a happier one for me and my dogs.

  4. Awesome Blog. I believe that animals are a responsibility. Should you choose to own one training is essential. Truthfully I have not quite figured out when dog owners became dog parents.

  5. This is so true, pet owners do get frustrated all the time with their first time with dogs. Helping them train their dogs is a good thing your doing, it can really mean a lot to those owners that don't know how to handle their dog. I sometimes watch that show with that lady who comes over people's homes to help train their dogs in a more mannerly way. It looks like it can be really hard sometimes adjusting to training with different dogs.

  6. I love this post. My family adores Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, but they're known for having a stubborn streak. It pains me to read about how many Chessies are given up because their families can't handle the personality. I find it charming, really, but it does take patience to live with them.

I really admire you for educating people about dog handling. It must be really fun to get to work with dogs as part of your job.

  7. I think it is very admirable you put so much love and care into dogs. I can't do it myself! I do not like dogs nor want to be around one, look at one, or touch one! I just think it is weird for families to live with an animal in their homes. Sometimes we can't count our own family members as animals sometimes! Do you have a training store already?
